James “Our White Van Man” (And The Boss)
James joined Green Pastures in 2009 when he and his partner Michelle bought the business from her parents Al and Rita. Since he was knee high James has been involved with plants, having grown up on his parents farm. Upon leaving school he trained with Notcutts where he stayed for almost 23 years, becoming Manager of the Norwich branch. Until recently James was also a Garden Writer and Photographer and was recently pleased to start turning a number of his pictures into greetings cards now sold in our farm shop. James is seldom seen in one place for long as he rushes between the plant centre, farm shop, our many growing areas and the vegetable market, usually in his van!
Michelle “The Dynamo” (The Other Boss!)
Michelle literally grew up with the business since her parents began Green Pastures in 1986 when she was eleven years old. Despite being so involved with the business she decided to look for pastures new upon leaving school and took on a variety of different jobs, but always excelled most in sales roles. Michelle is what you would call “A People Person” and since she returned to Green Pastures in 2002 she’s become a real favourite with our customers. Michelle oversees the growing of all our perennials, basket plants and hanging baskets. She is a human dynamo as she juggles between work and looking after young Harry, Tommy and Beau.
Mark “Our Walking, Talking Plant Encyclopaedia”
It doesn’t take long when talking to Mark to realise what’s his main passion in life, plants! Along with Sarah, Mark is extremely creative and has a fantastic eye for colour and design. After leaving school Mark attended a photography course at college, which clearly helped spark an interest in creating wonderful planting schemes. A keen allotment gardener, Mark is keen to break the mould of tradition and has created some beautifully ornamental plots. In 2013 he won an award for the best allotment in Norwich. He is also fast developing his floristry skills to assist Michelle. Oh, and Mark has another more hidden passion; Barbra Streisand!
Luke (The Fixer!)
Luke is our garden centre apprentice and brings some much appreciated youth to this part of our business! We’re sure Luke never ever expected to be speaking latin, but he has taken to learning plant names and descriptions like a duck to water and we’re sure it wont be long before he becomes fluent in the language of plants! Having originally trained as a plumber when he fist left school, he decided he preferred working in the great outdoors (and who could blame him!). There’s still however a big handy-man lurking inside him as he can’t resist trying to fix everything (especially the leaky hoses!) and usually succeeds. Since joining us, Luke has been very involved in our crop production for the farm shop and has become a huge asset in our salad leaf growing.
