We are now the very proud stockists of two more Norfolk tipples – Norfolk Nog by The English Whisky Company, and a variety of lagers from Redwell’s brewery who are based just 6 miles away from us in Trowse. Whenever we are choosing new products to stock, we always have our customers in mind and we choose what we think you will like. So we thought we’d let you have a little insight into just why we chose these new products:
We were initially attracted to this drink purely because of its name and on having a taste it certainly did not disappoint. It was described to us as “very much like an Irish Cream Liqueur” and that’s really doing it a disservice because it is so much more than that. The single malt whisky that is the basis of this drink is warming and has a delightful taste, and the cream makes this so smooth and delicious. You won’t need a lot of this and we think it would taste marvellous while sitting by a log fire on a cold winter’s day.
The English Whisky Company is based in Roudham in Norfolk. Their whisky is batch made by hand, matured in fine casks, bottled on site using their own water and is non chill-filtered.
We had heard a lot about this brewery and bumped into them at the Norfolk Food and Drink Awards at which they won the ‘Pride of Norfolk’ category when we won the award for ‘Best Restaurant’. We knew that they were making a big impact in the brewing world, not just locally but also further afield, especially in London, so we wanted our customers to be able to try their products. It’s also good to be able to support another local business who, in turn, support Norfolk farmers by producing their beers and ales using Norfolk Maris Otter barley. We are stocking 3 of the beers from their range:
Redwell’s describe this as: “A great lager for ale lovers, this is a California Common style beer, fermented with lager yeast at ale fermentation temperature. Spiced cake aromas and flavours, Redwell Steam is a neat beer that has all the charm of an amber ale with the cleanliness and spriteliness of a lager.”
The description for this one is: “A coffee stout collaboration with Kofra speciality coffee brewers in Norwich. Black with a thick tan head; aromas of freshly brewed coffee, roasted malts and a light treacle sweetness touches the nose. On the palate you get chocolate digestive biscuits before the coffee kicks in, then a smooth creamy finish.”
West Coast Pale Ale
And finally, Redwell’s describe this as: “Our West Coast pale is chock full of American hops, giving you the aroma of fresh citrus fruits which continues onto the palate… think grapefruit & blood orange but with a sturdy rich tea biscuit base to bring it all together!”
We would be very happy to receive any of these in our Christmas stocking – they are absolutely delicious and a lovely change from the mass-produced beers available in the supermarkets. You can really taste the quality and passion that goes into these and we highly recommend them, so why not treat yourself this Christmas?
